How to Measure for Your Wedding Dress

Accurate measurements are crucial for ensuring that your wedding dress fits perfectly. Follow these instructions to measure yourself correctly.

1. Bust

  • What to Measure: The fullest part of your bust.
  • How to Measure:
    1. Stand up straight with your arms at your sides.
    2. Wrap a soft measuring tape around your back, under your arms, and across the fullest part of your bust.
    3. Ensure the tape is parallel to the floor and not too tight.
    4. Wear the bra you plan to wear with your dress for the most accurate measurement.
Tips: Keep the tape measure snug but not tight. Avoid holding your breath or puffing out your chest.

2. Waist

  • What to Measure: The narrowest part of your waist, usually above your belly button and below your ribcage.
  • How to Measure:
    1. Find your natural waist by bending to one side; the crease that forms is your natural waistline.
    2. Wrap the measuring tape around this point.
    3. Keep the tape snug but not too tight, and make sure it's parallel to the floor.
Tips: Stand naturally without sucking in your stomach. It’s best to measure in front of a mirror to ensure the tape is level.

3. Hips

  • What to Measure: The fullest part of your hips and buttocks.
  • How to Measure:
    1. Stand with your feet together.
    2. Wrap the measuring tape around the widest part of your hips and bottom.
    3. Ensure the tape is straight and parallel to the floor.
Tips: Measure at the point where your hips are the widest, which is usually about 7-9 inches below your natural waist.

4. Hollow to Floor

  • What to Measure: The distance from the hollow of your neck to the floor.
  • How to Measure:
    1. Stand straight with your feet together.
    2. Start the measuring tape at the hollow at the base of your neck (just above your collarbone).
    3. Measure down to the floor, ensuring the tape is straight.
    4. For floor-length dresses, measure to the floor, including the height of your wedding shoes.
Tips: Have someone help you with this measurement for the best accuracy. Wear the shoes you plan to wear on your wedding day.

5. Height

  • What to Measure: Your total height from the top of your head to the floor.
  • How to Measure:
    1. Stand straight with your back against a wall.
    2. Make sure your feet are flat on the ground.
    3. Mark the top of your head on the wall.
    4. Measure the distance from the mark to the floor.
Tips: Stand barefoot for this measurement to get the most accurate result.

Additional Measuring Tips

  • Take Each Measurement Twice: To ensure accuracy, measure each area at least twice.
  • Use a Mirror: Stand in front of a mirror to ensure the measuring tape is level and straight.
  • Get Help: Having someone assist you with these measurements can improve accuracy and make the process easier.
